     Volunteers and Beers

Join the West Michigan Spartans for a rewarding volunteer opportunity with Kid's Food Basket packing Sack Suppers for children in our West Michigan Area!

Kid's Food Basket works to fight childhood hunger in the West Michigan Area by providing Sack Suppers to those children who may not have the opportunity to have a nourishing dinner.

Due to the tremendous amount of volunteers for our Spring Service Project we have decided to volunteer on two different days (November 15th and 16th).  We will volunteer at the Kid's Food Basket from 3:30 to 4:30.  After volunteering meet us at Gravity Taphouse for drinks!

MSU vs. ND Watch Party was a Success!

On September 17th, 3,500 fans watched the Spartan football team defeat the Fighting Irish on a 32’ x 18’ LED television set up in Ah-Nab-Awen Park in downtown Grand Rapids… on the banks of the Grand River.  The crowd grew throughout the night reaching 3,500 at half-time.  The crowd watched a trailer for a new documentary on MSU’s 1966 team that fought the national champion Fighting Irish to 10-10, and observed a moment of silence for fallen MSU All-American Mike Sadler who graduated from Forest Hills Northern.  His mother, Karen Sadler, talked about Mike’s legacy and the formation of the Michael Sadler Foundation.  The West Michigan Spartans presented a check for $5,000 to help fund the foundation that will help local students attend MSU.  While rain fell prior to the event, the evening was perfect to watch our football team post a huge victory.  Drone pictures of the event can be found on our Facebook group, MSU Club of West Michigan.

Chef Prize 2016 was a hit!

On September 11th, 500 “foodies” descended on Hampton Green Farm in Fruitport, MI to sample food from 22 local restaurants, 5 local bakeries, and 4 local adult beverage providers. The attendees were treated to food, tours of the world class training facilities, ice carving, and food demonstrations.  Seven judges (including Peter Secchia, a professor from MSU’s the Hospitality School of Business, the dean of the Michigan Culinary Institute, the mayor of Norton Shores, the Owner of Hampton Green Farms, and a chef from the Chicago restaurant Bistronomics) sampled food from seven of the top restauranants and named Executive Chef Charles Forrester from The Lake House Waterfront Grille as the winner of the 2016 Chef Prize.  The weather was perfect for this first time event!  The restaurants and winners can be found at chefprizemichigan.com and time lapse and drone pictures can be found on our Facebook group, MSU Club of West Michigan.
